Llanes to Vigo

Yesterdays  plan was, well we didn’t really have one. Just get a bit further than 96kms and we succeeded, 511kms .

There is nothing quite like a warm, clear sunny day in Spain and yesterday was nothing like it!

The day started out okay, we had decided to do some motorway kilometres to get some distance on the clock and the motorway runs along the coast anyway.  The benefit of the motorway is they are so incredibly high up you get good views into the valleys and a good appreciation of the lush green fields contrasting with the rich browns of the soil.  That is of course until the weather gets so bad you can’t see the road in front of you let alone any scenery :(

The day did get better and by the time we reached Vigo it was actually getting quite warm again. Vigo is a reasonably large Port city and we decided to spend another day here admiring the city’s architecture and some interesting art pieces.

The Spaniards  don’t seem to get up early so it is easy to get some peaceful pictures of the towns early in the morning. (Llanes)

Despite the weather I managed to get a few “on the go’s”.

2015 06 05 Santander to Llanes

5^th June 2015

Santander to Llanes

Today’s plan was – get up early, have breakfast as soon as it is available, get going early, do more kilometres than we have been.  Okay so that was the plan.

So we got up early, we had breakfast early and we got going earlier than normal.  Then we stopped at Llanes to put our liners back on (it was a bit chilly & damp this morning) and have coffee.  That’s as far as we got, 96kms!

The reason - Llanes is a medieval fishing town that just had to be explored and Maurice found a perfect Pension to stay in right on Plaza P.Sobrino, the main little square.     

Off we go nice and early ready for a big days ride.    

We weren’t on the road for very long but we did get a couple of photo’s.

2015 06 03 Bakio to Santander

3^rd – 4th June 2015

Bakio to Santander

Well today there was more spectacular coast to look at and more coffee to be drunk, especially now that Jon from Gaztelu-Begt (which is Basque for Castle Eye, last nights hotel) has taught Maurice how to order flat whites.  Once again we didn't get very far but this is a holiday after all.  We also decided to have a day off and just take a long walk and appreciate the beach scenery.

Santander is a nice little city of about 200,000 with great beaches and a relaxed feel about the whole place. The Casino looked good but I don’t think we would have matched the dress code.

Yesterday when we got back to our hotel the lady at reception told us that the police had been looking at out bike so she went out to see what was going on.  It was only then she realised our bike was from Australia she was so impressed she wanted to take photo’s.

Mr Pitt this one is for you. Despite the sign there are still some topless sun seekers :)

We have just got back to the room after spending the evening next door drinking wine, beer, coffee and eating heaps of Tapas for a total of 36 Euro which is about $55. So it is just as well the blog is up to date now :)
